Last night when we got home, there were 4 messages on our recorder from Caleb's doctor's office about his lab work. Then this morning when I looked at my cell phone, I had two messages from them from last night. I was starting to get a little worried that something was wrong (even though one of the messages said that his results were normal but still said to call back). So I called this morning to see what the deal was, and they just said everything was normal.
What is the deal with leaving 6 messages on my recorder? And why can't they just leave a message saying everything was normal? Is there a law that says you have to actually reach someone on the phone before you can let it go...even if you tell them it is fine on the message?
How strange.

I hate that they can't leave a message with the results. I think it has something to do with patient privacy or something like that but its often very inconvenient! But, I can safely say that my Dr.'s office has never tried to contact me as many as 6 times before! Actually, at least they are diligent in trying to reach you! One thing that my current doctor does is have me fill out a post card folded in half with my address when I'm at my appointment. Then, when they get my lab results back, they just write the results on there, fold it in half and mail it to me. It probably takes about a day longer to reach me than if they called, but then they don't have to track everyone down and I don't have to worry about calling them back. I think it works great.
It is a patient privacy law (HIPAA) that prevents you from leaving a message that contains any personal information, such as lab work. If we are calling to confirm appointments, you are not even supposed to leave the date and time...you can leave a message that says they have an appointment. (Of course, lots of docs don't stick too closely to that one)
I think that our office is pretty good about giving you a few days to get back in touch with us. We generally don't place a second call until we haven't heard from them in three days...can't believe they called you 6 times in one day!! That is crazy!!
