A Flight to Remember

One of my greatest fears came true this morning. I fell/flew down the stairs of my house face down...the whole flight of stairs! Praise God I didn't have Caleb with me! I had glasses in my hands (and one of them had water sloshing in it), and as I was adjusting it at the top of the stairs, my foot must have slipped. And down I went.

It's amazing what goes through your head in a split second as something is happening to you (Can I stop this? No, I can't...just let it happen.). And then also as soon as I hit the downstairs floor, another round of things was going through my head (At least I'm not knocked out. Did I break anything? What happened to the glass cup I was carrying? Am I about to start really hurting somewhere? I am covered in water! Now I'm going to have to re-do my hair!)

I seem to be ok...at least for now. We'll see how I feel in a day or two. Right now I just have some ugly carpet burns and some pretty scary bruises. But I feel extremely lucky to be feeling ok. Ever since that happened this morning, I have been thanking God over and over and over that I'm ok.

I told my mom on the way to work that I'm going to start going down the stairs on my bottom from now on. :) So if Caleb thinks that is the only way to go down stairs his whole life, this may be why. :)

oh scary!!!!!! I have fallen down our stairs but I fell backward so my butt landed on the stairs and I only tumbled down a few of them. I can't imagine what you experienced, and yes thank God Caleb wasn't in your arms. I don't want to frighten you even more but that was the cause of an infant's death about a year ago that I heard about. The stairs are scary to me, and I am not really sure what to do about it. I mean, you can be careful, but accidents happen. I am just glad you are okay.

That happened to me one time when I was still living at home because I was wearing socks and slipped on the carpet - every time I just wore socks after that I was way more careful! Glad you are ok!

Thank you, Lord, for only bruises, carpet burns, and that Steph...and Caleb are okay. Thank you for giving us experiences to teach us to be alert, careful, creative and thankful. Hugs do great at calming nerves after such an experience...I hope Chris was home to give you one or that you got one from Caleb. Wish I were there to give you one!! Love you, Stephanie.

I am so glad you are okay! I am so sorry. I know that is scary and I like your idea of just going down on your bottom- it probably will be more fun that way. :) I will pray you are okay.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea when I saw you today that you had been in such a potentially scary accident today. That little tiny body of yours doesn't have alot of padding so I am so very thankful that you did not break something or that the glass did not break and cut you. I hope you do not feel any worse in the days to come.

Steph, I've done it too!! Thankfully, we have carpeted stairs like you guys. I've slipped on a few stairs in my socks & boys does it hurt to land with a thud on your backside! I can't even imagine how you must have felt. I'm so sorry!

And, the story that Becky mentioned actually happened to my best friend's husband's boss. It was her daughter who eventually passed away from a fall down the stairs. However, the circumstances were a little different... marble stairs & the caretaker slipped while holding infant, which sent the little girl flying. Still a VERY scary situation & a fear of mine, as well.

I'm so glad you're feeling okay!
