A Kiss
I grew up in a family that kissed on the cheek...not the lips. So lip kissing has always made me uncomfortable...except for with Chris, of course. So, it's really kind of bothering me that over the last few days, Caleb has gotten to where he only wants to kiss on the lips. Yesterday he announced to me in the car that "Mommy, I have lips!" So I don't know if it's some kind of new thing because he's discovered his lips or if it's because he has seen Mommy and Daddy kissing. Either way, I feel like I need to break this quick...but then, it's also kind of cute. What to do...what to do...

Don't ask Don Scott, he kisses me on the lips all the time. So does my mom and it still kind of catches me by surprise :)
I don't have any answers but I'm curious what you will do, if anything! My family never kissed each other on the lips either and I've thought about what we'll do with Ethan...or maybe more appropriately, what HE'LL do.
Poppy says break this now before it multiplies. I love the kisses on the cheek, but it ends there!
Don't ask Grammie...she's from a family that has always kissed on the lips and still does. You should have seen the 1st time my tall brother, Gary, picked up his short, brother-in-law, Don, and planted one on his mouth!LOL We were raised as huggers and kissers. Parents & kids, siblings & siblings. When I taught kdg, my words for the kids were "hugs are for friends, but kisses are saved for family".
When I was little I kissed my parents and grandparents on the lips...as I got older, I started kissing them on the cheek naturally. I know a lot of other people that did that, too. Casey thinks it is super weird as well. It makes me laugh after hearing you and Casey and then seeing Mitch's comment. Sometimes I think y'all are sensitive to that stuff! I was raised way more lovey dovey than y'all! :)
Well, my family growing up didn't even kiss on the cheek, much less the lips. Kissing anyone other than a spouse on the lips just seems WAY weird to me. I wish I'd had more kisses and hugs growing up, and even more kisses and hugs with you and Casey, and even more now. But, I'm still a fan of kisses on the cheek. Reserve the lips for Chris. That's my two cents. What does Chris think? I think ya'll get to decide for your family and it will be fine!
We are big kissers on the lips and cheeks while it is appropriate. While the kids are young I don't see a problem with it, but you do have to cut it off at some point and they will want to naturally. Kimbo loves to kiss on the lips and I would just feel bad to withhold the affection, but I know other people have other opinions about it. It is my opinion that America is too stand offish (if little ones want a kiss on the lips -if you are their parent, give it to them is what I say (believe me, they won't want it forever). I think we need more affection here in America. But that is just my two cents.
Oh and one more thing, my parents kissed me on the lips and I will barely kiss them on the cheek now..so go figure. Believe me, if you are worried if it will end, it will. I do not mean to write so passionately. I just don't want people to think there is something wrong with it. If you just don't feel comfortable that is one thing, but if another family does it I wish people would not think them weird or messing their child up.
Amen with what Lindsay said about Americans! The Europeans will kiss you straight on the lips without even asking! Ha ha!! :)
Haha - we're lip and cheek kissers ;)! I love it! I grew up that way with my parents and siblings :). I probably can't offer too much advise, but I'm sure as he gets older it won't be as "cool" to kiss on the lips!
We are lip kissers here too! :) Wouldn't have it any other way. I love to see my kiddos pucker up & come at me with those cute little lips. Too darn cute!!
