Songs from Childhood

Each day as I am taking Caleb to school and then going home in the afternoon, I sing him songs from my childhood. I want Caleb to not only know the songs from his generation, but from my generation and generations of the past also. I am always trying to think of new songs to sing that I may have forgotten all about.

What songs do you remember singing as a child? Church songs? Traditional songs?

Thanks for your help!

Wow- this could be a long list.
I think a lot about church hymns that I sang growing up that we just don't sing anymore. I also regret that we use words on a screen instead of the songbooks. I think I soaked up reading music just by doing it week in and week out at church. Our kids don't have that exposure. Some of my favorites as a kid were "Tis a Fountain Free", "The Great Redeemer" (that super fun part where the women sing "he is ev-ry-thing-to-me-to-me" staccato!), "Low in the Grave He Lay", "Christ We Do All Adore Thee", "Sing and Be Happy", "Were You There?", "There's Not A Friend", "Sweet Hour of Prayer", "Nothing But The Blood", and I might as well include one song that I COULD NOT stand- "I'll Fly Away." I also sang kids' church songs like "I've got the Joy Deep in My Heart", "Deep and Wide", "Swing Low", "Wrapped Up Tied Up Tangled Up in Jesus."
I'm not a big fan of devo songs that repeat one or two lines over and over. Those sort of took over the stage for a while, although I think we are moving a little away from that these days with modern songs that have verses and more of a message to them- for example "Days of Elijah."
As for non-church songs..."Puff the Magic Dragon", "BINGO", "Froggie Went a'Courting", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "On Top of Old Smokey", "Rain Rain Go Away", "This Old Man", "It's Raining It's Pouring", "Clementine".
I could list more, but those came to mind the quickest. I'm sure I overlooked a few of my favorites.
I sang kids' songs every day for 5 years teaching elementary music, so I have a large supply in my head.
Phew- this was a long response. Sorry!

I think Becky covered all the songs!! :) One of my favorites as a kid that I wish we still sang was Victory in Jesus. That was my ultimate favorite song all throughout my childhood. I also love This World is Not my Home. For kiddy songs I always sing Blue Skies and Rainbows. Do they sing that song here?
What are some songs you sing to Caleb? Maybe it will jog my memory for the Kimbo.
